Five ways Billy Donovan has made the Thunder unstoppable

TAG

NBA The Thunder have almost done it again. After beating the Spurs in the Western Conference semifinals, they’ve pushed the Warriors to the brink of elimination by shocking them on the road in Game 1 and then blowing them out in back-to-back games on their home court. One more victory, and they’ll get an opportunity to compete for an NBA title for the fifth time in franchise history.MORE: Avoid these excuses, Warriors fans For obvious reasons, Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant get much of the credit for the Thunder’s success — they’re a matchup nightmare for any team, to which their average of 53.7 points per game in the playoffs speaks. But giving them all the credit would be an injustice to Billy Donovan, since he has out-coached both Gregg Popovich and Steve Kerr by trusting lineups he rarely used in the regular season and putting role players in positions to succeed. For a first-year head coach, that’s a remarkable feat.Despite leading the Gators to two championships, Donovan didn’t look capable of this earlier in the season when the Thunder were struggling to close out games. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the specific adjustments he has made in these playoffs and why they’ve been so effective against the historically elite Warriors. Black people and sports analytics should not and cannot be exclusive clubs

Kevin Durant is 'not an $88 player' anymore, but new KD9 shoe is worth its cost

NBA AUSTIN, Texas — Kevin Durant returned to the city where he went to college for the launch of his latest signature sneaker from Nike, and did so with good reason. His relatively brief time at the University of Texas was extremely important to his personal development, so it made sense to show off the KD9 in a comfortable environment where he could reflect on all he’s become, both as a player and as a person.Once marketed toward the younger generation, Durant’s signature shoe has evolved into a performance monster. Nike’s popular Flyknit technology graces a Durant sneaker for the very first time, and a brand new full-length Zoom Air bag three years in the making has created one of the most comfortable rides yet. Kevin Durant and the Warriors are a perfect match on offense

MORE: NBA free agency trackerIt’s no secret that Kevin Durant will make the Warriors scarier. He is one of the elite scorers in the history of the league, and he can get it done in every way imaginable. In his final season with the Thunder, Durant ranked in the 85th percentile or greater when it came to scoring out of the post, spot-ups, isolation, pick-and-roll and transition. Pairing him with a trio of All-Stars in Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, all of whom helped the Warriors post an offensive rating of 112.5 in 2015-16, could help them reach heights we’ve never seen before. LeBron James, Cavaliers getting bored with the competition
