Chicago done, Texas next up on the Carmelo Anthony tour

For a Tuesday afternoon in which nothing much happened on the Carmelo Anthony front, there were at least a few things happening on the Carmelo Anthony front.

First, Anthony arrived in Chicago for his meeting with the Bulls, finding the United Center decked out with welcoming messages and photos of him in a Bulls uniform. There was also some star power present, beginning with Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen and All-Star big man Joakim Noah, who has been slyly working on Anthony for months now.

But Rose was there in the Anthony meeting, which lasted much of the afternoon.

The Bulls are still considered the favorites to land Anthony — should he leave the Knicks. New York has the appeal of a longer contract at slightly more money, as well as being the home base for his family.Still, as a source told SN earlier in the year, Anthony is seeking the “Dwight Howard treatment,” which means a full round of schmoozing during this first week of free agency. Keep in mind that Anthony has never had this experience — he was traded to New York in 2011, and signed a three-year extension shortly thereafter. H[……]

Wolves' Shabazz Muhammad on path to break down misconceptions

TAG

NBA

Shabazz Muhammad isn’t a speed demon. He won’t break you down off the dribble or beat you from the 3-point line. But his numbers, especially in high school and college, may suggest otherwise.

Muhammad has been a productive basketball player for most of his basketball career. His game does not fit the normal mold for a prototypical 6-6 small forward. Muhammad is making a name for himself as a scorer in the NBA, but not on the perimeter.

In short, he’s dealt with his share of criticism, but he hasn’t seemed to mind.

“I love changing people’s opinions,” Muhammad said back in 2013 after being introduced by his new NBA team. “That gives me a chip on my shoulder.”It took Muhammad some time to get where he is, and it hasn’t always been a pleasant ride to success.Coming out of UCLA, Muhammad’s draft stock had, by most standards, plummeted. At one point, he was in the conversation for the top overall pick. By the time his season had ended, he was fighting to hear his name called in the lottery.Part of that was the misconception of what he did well on the court. In high school, he was strong enough to overpower other players, and had a good[……]

Chicago Bulls lose in Rose's return

The Bulls got Derrick Rose back on Wednesday night, but it wasn’t enough to help them get past the Magic.

The Bulls lost 105-103 to the Magic with Rose returning to the lineup after missing six weeks following a meniscus tear in his right knee.

“I felt all right,” Rose said via The Associated Press. “I think it was about right. It’ll get better the more I play, but I’m getting better every week. It’ll take some time, but I’ll get there.”

The 2012 MVP scored nine points and added two rebounds and two assists in 19 minutes against Orlando. Although he did have a nice, driving layup in the third quarter, he also turned the ball over four times and was not on the floor in the game’s deciding minutes.

Rose said it was “very hard” to be on the bench late in the game.

“At the same time, it’s all about patience. I’m going to have my turn,” Rose said. “Right now while I’m not playing, I’m just trying to learning a little more and seeing how they’re playing. The only thing I can do is just sit back and watch and learn.”

The magazine publisher, which leases 1.2 million square feet at the Financial District skyscraper, has not paid the $2.4 million it owes in rent for January, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The media company has reportedly been looking for a way out of its lease since the summer, and hopes to move to a smaller office in Midtown or New Jersey’s Gold Coast. But its landlords — the Port Authority of New York New Jersey and the Durst Organization — aren’t prepared to let the company go so easily, especially considering its lease at the SOM-designed supertall extends through 2039.
“The Port Authority believes it has strong contractual rights to enforce full payment by Advance which it intends to assert,” a spokesperson for the agency told the Journal.

Manhattan apartment sellers still think they ll make a 40% return in 5 years
Their aspirations don’t quite confer with the reality of the market
New York /
Despite all evidence pointing to a cooling property market in Manhattan, reality hasn t quite sunk in for some sellers in the borough. Many still expect to make at least a 40 percent return on apartments they bought just over five years ago.
Through September of this year, sellers of homes listed for less than $3 million sought a median price 47 percent higher than what they paid in 2010, Bloomberg reported. Based on data from StreetEasy, sellers who bought homes in 2011 listed them for a median 42 percent markup, and those who bought in 2012 listed for a 35 percent increase.
The aggressive pricing and high expectations, however, don t match with reality. “In my experience, it takes sellers a good one to two and a half years to believe in the new market,” said Jonathan Miller, the CEO of appraisal firm Miller Samuel. “The buyers are with the program immediately.”
In the third quarter of 2016, fewer properties were sold above the initial asking price and discounts were on the rise. Only 17.4 percent of residential sales were above the listing price — compared to 31 percent at the same time in 2015, as The Real Deal reported in October.  Landlords in the borough are also offering concessions to r[……]
