Blazers wear shirts to honor fan who collapsed, passed away after game


The Portland Trail Blazers will honor Sandy Zickefoose on Sunday night by wearing t-shirts bearing her name during warm-ups.

Zickefoose, aged 67, collapsed during a game on Nov. 6 betweeen the Blazers and Mavericks in the fourth quarter. It was a stunning scene and players and fans alike stood with their hands over their mouths while EMTs performed CPR on the fan. She later died at Legacy Emmanuel Hospital, just up the road from the Moda Center.

“That’s never something that we want to see or have to experience,” said LaMarcus Aldridge after the team’s practice on Nov. 7. “I didn’t know how to recover from it. I’m glad I wasn’t in the game because I was kind of shook after the fact, just to see that type of scene going on on the court, I just never had seen that before. I’m sure mysel

f and the Trail Blazers, we’ll do something on our end to try to give back or just try to help.”

Portland has one of the most well-respected fan bases in the league and this is a classy way for both the organization and the players to go about honoring Zickefoose's memory.
